Selling on Alt
Updated over 4 months ago

Participation Requirements

You must have an Alt account to sell on the Fixed Price Marketplace or Liquid Auctions.

To sell on Alt, cards must be graded by PSA, BGS, BVG, SGC, or CGC and stored in our Vault. We offer a vaulting service that delivers a comprehensive product experience and allows our collectors to buy, sell, collateralize, and view their assets while they’re stored in a temperature-controlled facility that’s monitored 24/7.

Our vaulting services are free for all cards that are graded by supported companies and $5 for each unsupported graded card or ungraded (also known as Raw) card. All vaulted cards receive digitization, storage, and insurance with no ongoing storage fees, and you can outtake your cards at any time.

Important: We have a robust quality assurance process in place, therefore no damaged or scratched slabs will be allowed on the platform. If received, these will be only available for storage.

Fixed Price

A dedicated marketplace where you can buy and sell pre-authenticated cards. You have full say as a seller and can seamlessly determine your listing prices. Once vaulted, you can simply navigate to your Collection page, click ‘Sell’ next to the card you wish to list, select ‘List Now,’ then enter your desired list price, select ‘List,’ and ‘Confirm Listing.’

Dual Listings

You can also cross-list cards on eBay, reaching a wider audience without extra effort. Alt handles everything from listing to payouts and shipping, ensuring sellers receive the same payout regardless of the sale's platform.

Counteroffers

Sellers can negotiate directly with buyers during a Fixed-Price transaction on Alt or eBay. Negotiating through counteroffers makes closing deals easy without lowering the market's list price.

How do counteroffers work?

A: When an offer is placed on a Fixed Price listing, the seller is notified that there is a new offer that is eligible for counteroffer. The seller then has the option to accept or privately counter at a price higher than the buyer's offer but lower than their list price. This counteroffer is only available for 24 hours and is visible only to the individual buyer. During this 24-hour window, the buyer can accept the counteroffer or privately increase their offer price until the counteroffer expires. This will continue until both parties agree on a price or the offers expire. Once in negotiations, neither party can withdraw a counteroffer.

What happens if the buyer or seller accepts a counteroffer?

A: If either the buyer or seller accepts a counteroffer, the transaction will automatically execute at the agreed-upon price. If the buyer accepts the offer, they will be prompted to make payment immediately. If the seller accepts the offer, the buyer will be notified and have 4 days to initiate payment.

Is there a time limit for negotiations using counteroffers?

A: The initial offer window is 24 hours. If the seller counters the offer, the window will extend for an additional 24 hours. If the buyer counters again, the timeframe will restart for another 24 hours. This will continue until a price is agreed upon or the offer expires. There is no predetermined limit to the number of counteroffers that can be exchanged back and forth.

Is there an offer limit?

A: The buyer can make up to 5 offers on a card. Once that limit is reached, negotiations will reset after 30 days unless the seller cancels and relists the card.

Liquid Auctions

Submitting assets to sell within Liquid Auctions is easy regardless of whether your cards are vaulted or not. We're delivering maximum value to our collectors through:

  • Cash Advances: Receive dynamic and competitive cash advances based on multiple factors, including market trends, card liquidity, grade, and condition

  • Fast asset transfers: Once a transaction has settled, the winning bidder will automatically receive the card in their Alt Vault

  • End-to-end consignment: No further actions are required once a card has been submitted by a seller and approved by Alt's Card Experts

Cash Advances

When consigning cards to an upcoming auction, cards that are evaluated at $250 or higher by our Card Experts are eligible to receive a cash advance. Alt provides cash advances based on various factors including market trends, card liquidity, grade, and condition. These advances are not necessarily reflective of the card’s market value but are based on what we are comfortable advancing.

If you consign multiple cards to the same auction, you may qualify for a cumulative cash advance that is based on the total estimated value of all consigned cards. This means that even cards valued at less than $250 individually may be eligible for a cash advance if combined with higher-value cards. This lump-sum advance approach allows us to offer even more competitive cash advance rates for our sellers!

By consigning a diverse collection of cards, you may receive higher cumulative cash advance percentages. Upon auction conclusion, the proceeds from your card sales will first be used to repay the provided cash advance, with any remaining balance then being credited to your Alt account.

Fees

Fixed Price

For all sales on our Fixed Price marketplace, including counteroffers and cards listed on eBay, the seller fee will be based on the card's final sale price.

See the table below for our current fee structure:

Sale Price

Selling Fee

$0 - $7,499

$7,500 - $9,999

$10,000 +

Here are a couple of different fee scenarios to further explain:

Scenario 1:

  • You sell a card for $7,499.00, the sale falls into the 10% tier. The fee for the sale is $749.90 ($7,499.00 x 10% = $749.90). As the seller, your payout would be $6,749.10 ($7,499.00 - 749.90 = $6,749.10)

Scenario 2:

  • You sell a card for $7,550.00, the sale falls into the 8% tier. The fee for the sale is $604.00 ($7,550.00 x 8% = $604.00). As the seller, your payout would be $6,946.00 ($7,550 - 604 = $6,946)

Liquid Auctions

Submitting assets to sell within Liquid Auctions is easy regardless of whether your cards are vaulted or not. We're delivering maximum value to collectors.

  • Seller's Bonus: A buyer’s premium that is added to the final price and shared between Alt and the seller. Sellers within a Liquid Auction will receive a bonus based on the hammer price of each sale, as notated in the chart below:

Transfer of Ownership

Once a buyer's payment has successfully settled, the asset will automatically be transferred into their Alt Vault for storage and appear digitally within their Alt Collection.

Our Vault simply moves the asset into the buyer's name upon completion of the transaction, where it will then automatically appear digitally within their Alt Collection.

If desired, the new owner of the card can then request for the card to be physically shipped to the address of their choice:

  1. Select the Menu dropdown (two horizontal lines on the top right of the homepage)

  2. Select 'My Account'

  3. Select 'Shipments'

  4. During this process, customers will be prompted to enter the mailing address to which they would like the card(s) shipped.

What happens if my card sells on eBay?

If your card sells on eBay, Alt manages packaging and shipping the card to the buyer. There’s no extra work on your end. Select the card you want to sell, set your price, and we’ll take care of the listing, payouts, and shipping. You’ll get paid the same when your card sells, regardless of which platform the sale is from.

Compliance

Although alternative assets, such as collectible cards, are not regulated securities, our mission at Alt is to treat these assets as a true financial asset class, including holding ourselves to a high standard of compliance. Alt's Platform is meant to provide a transparent and trustworthy experience. To achieve this, the products have been built with controls that disallow disingenuous participation.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I sell a card that’s already in my Collection?

A:

  1. Navigate to your 'Collection' page

  2. Find the card you want to sell and click the purple 'Sell' button, located in the card's 'Status' column

  3. A pop-up will appear; confirm your actions by either clicking 'Consign Now' for Liquid Auctions or 'List Now' to sell at a Fixed Price.

  4. Your card will then be reserved for the next upcoming Liquid Auctions or listed immediately on the Fixed Price Marketplace.

Can sold cards be returned by the buyer?

A: No. Because Alt is taking custody and verifying the legitimacy of the card, all sales are final.

How can I receive sales proceeds or withdraw from my account balance?

A: You can initiate a withdrawal by visiting the 'Banking & Transfers' page under the 'My Alt' subsection and selecting the purple ‘Withdraw' button.
