Tax Reporting

Updated this week

Overview

Starting with the 2025 tax year, the IRS has updated the reporting thresholds for 1099-K forms. This article explains what's changed, who will receive a form, and how to ensure your tax information is accurate.

What's Changed for 2025?

For calendar years beginning in 2025, the IRS has returned to a higher reporting threshold. You will receive a 1099-K form only if you meet both of these requirements:

  • $20,000 or more in total gross payment volume, AND

  • 200 or more transactions

Important: This is a significant increase from the 2024 threshold of $5,000. Many sellers who received a 1099-K last year may not qualify for one this year.

When Will My Form Be Available?

If you meet both requirements, your 1099-K form will be available in your Stripe Express Dashboard by January 31, 2026.

How to Prepare for Your 1099-K

To ensure your tax documents are filed correctly, please complete these steps:

1. Log in to Stripe Express

2. Verify Your Personal Details

Navigate to the "Tax Forms" or "Profile" tab and confirm that the following information is current and accurate:

  • Legal name

  • Address

  • Taxpayer Identification Number (SSN or EIN)

3. Consent to e-Delivery

Opting into paperless delivery allows you to download your form immediately when it becomes available.

Important Tax Information

Please note: A 1099-K is an informational form and does not determine what you owe in taxes. Regardless of whether you receive a 1099-K form, the IRS requires all sellers to accurately report their taxable income.
